Disney, Pixar, Dreamworks, Warner Bros Animation, Aardman all include fully animated CGI. These companies were all using 2D for a long long time, and these films are still classics, but CGI is more popular in the present day and will be used forever. Dreamworks stepped out of it's comfort zone first out of these companies, producing 3D CGI motion pictures. All the companies collabarated to create the film Flushed Away. Aardman eventually parted ways and moved on to working with Sony, and Arthur Christmas was created, also using CGI.
Each company has used 2D digital animation. This was used in the film The Princess And The Frog. Pixar have also used this in smaller projects such as Night and Day which is a short film they had created.
Disney and Warner Bros drew out their animation from scratch to create their 2D animation. Disney nor Warner Bros use this method anymore as it takes up a lot of man hours and they get much more success from their CGI, and they like the more realistic detail and not animated drawings.
A few Disney films have used stop-motion animation, which is a technique which physically manipulates objects to appear that it moves on it's own. Warner Bros considered using this technique with lego, but resorted back to using CGI.
